Meridian Fire Department Issues Summer Heat Tips

The Meridian Fire Department posted a message for the first day of summer, urging people to plan ahead and be prepared for hot weather.

The department said people should carry water and start drinking it before they get hot and thirsty. It also advised making sure to bring water for kids or pets when appropriate.

It recommended using sun protection, including sunscreen and/or a hat, to help prevent burning. The department also said people should seek shade when possible.

The department added that people should make a plan for strenuous activities. It recommended starting earlier in the day before it gets too hot, carrying extra water, and letting a family member or friend know where they will be if they are away from services.

The post also said residents should know the signs of heat stroke and when to call 911.
