The Rocky Mount Fire Department announced a retirement celebration for Assistant Chief of Administration & Planning Michael W. Roupp. In a Facebook post dated June 1, 2026, the department said it was extending “heartfelt gratitude” after 30 years of service to the Rocky Mount Fire Department.

The department said Roupp served as a valued member of the RMFD family and embraced his personal motto, “Reach One More,” during his career. It also cited his commitment to mentorship, fellowship, and a “family” mindset within the department.

As Roupp moves to what the department described as the next phase of his journey, the post said Rocky Mount Fire Department staff wished him the “absolute best” and will “forever remember the legacy he leaves behind.”

Rocky Mount Police Investigate Child’s Fatal Dog Attack

Rocky Mount police said officers responded to an animal attack on Star Street involving a 2-year-old who later died at UNC Nash Hospital. The two dogs involved were surrendered to animal services, and the investigation is ongoing.
