Rocky Mount Police Investigate Child’s Fatal Dog Attack
Rocky Mount, North Carolina police said officers responded on June 15, 2026, at about 1:30 PM to a call for emergency medical services about an animal attack in the 1100 block of Star St.
Police said they learned that a 2-year-old juvenile was attacked by two family dogs. The dogs were described as pit bull mix breeds.
First responders performed life-saving measures at the scene and transported the juvenile to UNC Nash Hospital. Police said the juvenile was later pronounced dead at the hospital.
According to police, both dogs were surrendered to the Rocky Mount Animal Services Unit, and investigators are continuing to look into what happened.
The Rocky Mount Police Department’s Criminal Investigations Division, evidence technicians, and the North Carolina Department of Social Services are assisting with the investigation. Police said no further information was available at the time of the post.
