Denver Botanic Gardens in Denver, Colorado, reports that Mount Blue Sky Scenic Byway is open for the summer after being closed last year for road work.

Before reaching the summit, stop at Mount Goliath, the highest cultivated garden in the country. Our horticulturists maintain the garden. M. Walter Pesman Trail is a three-mile loop that weaves through subalpine and alpine areas of bristlecone pines and wildflowers.

Access is included with the required Mount Blue Sky Recreation Area ticket. The byway is managed in conjunction with the Denver Mountain Parks Foundation and the U.S. Forest Service.

Mount Blue Sky Scenic Byway, the highest paved road in North America, climbs over 7,000 feet in its 28-mile length and reaches an altitude of 14,130 feet. The Scenic Byway offers views of the Continental Divide, mountain goat and bighorn sheep herds, marmots, birds, alpine wildflowers and Rocky Mountain bristlecone pine trees.
