Fayetteville, Neighbors Face Dangerous Triple-Digit Heat Conditions

Fayetteville, NC – The Fayetteville Fire Department reports that triple-digit heat index values are expected across the region this week, creating dangerously hot conditions. Weather forecasts predict that temperatures will feel exceptionally high, with Fayetteville’s heat index reaching as high as 111°F on some days.

Officials advise residents to take precautions during this period of extreme heat. Vulnerable groups such as older adults, young children and infants, individuals with chronic illnesses or limited mobility, outdoor workers, and pets should be checked on regularly.

To protect against heat-related illnesses, the department recommends:

• Wearing loose, light-colored clothing.

• Applying sunscreen every two hours when spending time outdoors.

• Drinking plenty of water before thirst sets in.

• Taking breaks in the shade or within air-conditioned areas.

Heat advisories are in place when the heat index is expected to reach between 105°F and 109°F for two hours or more. An Excessive Heat Watch or Warning is issued if the heat index climbs to 110°F or higher.

In addition to Fayetteville, several nearby cities are expected to experience similar high heat indices. Forecasts for the coming days show values ranging from 101°F in Greensboro to 111°F in locations including Fayetteville, Goldsboro, Raleigh, Roanoke Rapids, and Rocky Mount.

Residents are urged to take necessary precautions and help vulnerable neighbors stay safe during the ongoing heat wave.
